Reviewing Pricing Options for Plans and Plan Templates - m3ter Documentation

Pricing Editor Configuration

In the Pricing Editor, when you’ve added an Aggregation for a Plan or Plan Template, there are various options available to configure the exact pricing structure you want using that Aggregation:

Options for Pricing Plans and Templates

  1. Start date: Enter the date from which you want the charges using this Pricing to apply for the Plan.

  2. End date: Enter a date on which you want the pricing to cease to apply to the Plan.

Tip: If you edit pricing applied to a Plan after the start date, review the Editing Pricing section.

  3. Description: Enter a custom description for the Pricing, which will show against usage line items on Bills.

  4. Minimum spend: Enter a minimum spend for this Pricing. If the calculated usage charge falls below this value, then an additional line item will be added to bring the charge up to the entered value (default is 0).

    • Minimum spend billing: Override the Organization-level setting for how minimum spends are billed - either in arrears or in advance.
    • Minimum spend description: Enter a custom description for any minimum spend line items on Bills.

Tip: If default descriptions are omitted, they will be shown on Bill line items.

  1. Usage accumulates over the entire plan contract period: Enable if the pricing tiers should be evaluated across the entire period the Plan is active.

Example for Tiered pricing structure: If usage accumulation is enabled and billing is monthly:

Tip: Default setting for usage accumulation is disabled.

  1. Apply as: Choose how you want the Pricing to apply for customer Accounts put on a Plan:

    • Debit: Amount calculated added to the bill as a debit.
    • Product Credit: Added to the bill as a credit, reducing the bill total.
    • Global Credit: Similar to product credit but caps total at the bill total for all line items.
  2. Pricing Type: Type of pricing structure appropriate for charging using the selected Aggregation:

    • Pricing Bands: Charge different rates for different levels of usage.
    • Unit Price / Fixed Price options:
      • Tiered: For charging on a per unit basis depending on band.
      • Volume: Charge rates according to the highest band reached.
      • Stairstep: Fixed prices charged based on the highest band reached.
      • Custom Tiered / Custom Volume: Combine fixed and per-unit charges.
  3. Price per unit: Rate for each pricing band configured for Tiered or Volume pricing types.

    • Note implications of negative values for Product credit or Global credit applications.
  4. Prepayment / Balance Overage Pricing: Set up overage pricing for any usage on the Account after the Prepayment/Balance amount has been consumed.

    • Important to note the interactions with overage surcharge percentage.

Editing Pricing

If you edit the pricing structure:

Tip: Be aware of mid-billing period price changes triggering line items in subsequent bills.

Important: If you configure a Pricing for a Plan Template, any inheriting Plan that does not override will receive the updated Pricing.
